Our Story

History

Steven & Susie Anderson met in ‘90s Edinburgh. 20 Years, a wedding & two kids later they launched East Coast Cured, their award-winning Scottish charcuterie company.

A combined love of food & travel gave Susie & Steven a taste for real artisan cured meats. Their frustration at what they could buy in Scotland, coupled with Steven’s experience as a brewer & distiller (salamis are fermented too!), led The Andersons to convert the eaves of their family home into an environmentally controlled ‘curing chamber’, start conversations with local farmers & begin developing recipes to feed friends & family.

Several years later, having saved some money & perfected their first recipes, Susie & Steven bought a small shop on Restalrig Road, Leith, with a large basement, kitted it out for commercial production, launched their product at a local market and, in 2017, East Coast Cured was born.

Today

Our meats were made beneath our former Leith shop on Restalrig Road until early 2024. In June 2023 we took the difficult decision to close our Leith shop so we could focus on a much needed expansion of our production space. In December 2023 we started renovating ‘Salamiland’, a custom built cured meat factory, on a nearby industrial estate, moving production (and everything else!) there in Spring 2024.

We sell our meats to lovely customers far and wide! Retail customers can buy from our online shop, from one of our many stockists or visit us at markets & events.

We sell our range of meats to other businesses all over the UK supplying our Scottish Charcuterie to farm shops, delis, restaurants, bars & caterers throughout our isles.

Team

Steven heads up our Production and spends more time than he would like navigating red tape, his years as a Production Manager at a large Edinburgh distillery serving him well.

Susie (despite what Steven says) heads up everything else. Her background in design alongside experience in managing several small creative businesses means that she can turn her hand to most things. And if she doesn’t know, she’ll learn.

Of course The Andersons couldn’t do it alone. The East Coast Cured team is small but efficient. They work hard, have high standards, precise attention to detail & take great pride in their work.
